Features to know about

Tough Roads, No Problem: Steel Armored Protection

When your trailer sees a lot of miles or rough terrain, you need a light that can handle it. This Peterson Armored Clearance and Side Marker Trailer Light uses a durable bright-plated steel housing that shields the bulb from impacts, road debris, and vibration. The rugged build makes it ideal for heavy-duty setups where plastic housings would wear out too quickly. You can even spot-weld it to side rails or bed rails for a secure installation that stays put.

Smooth on the Road: Vibar Socket Absorbs Shock

Road vibration can quickly take out fragile bulbs, but this light’s Vibar socket helps prevent that. It absorbs road shock and vibration, extending the life of the 168 incandescent bulb inside. That means less time replacing bulbs and more time with steady, reliable illumination every time you tow.

Simple Power and Mounting: 1-Wire Surface-Mount Design

Installation is straightforward thanks to the light’s single-wire design that grounds through the mounting hardware. The flat-back surface mount sits flush against your trailer, and you can mount it using existing holes since the distance between them is 3-3/8" center on center. It works with 12V DC systems and draws only 0.35 amps at 12V, making it easy on your electrical setup.

See and Be Seen: Amber PC-Rated Illumination

Visibility matters for safety, and this amber lens light is PC rated for 180 degrees of coverage. That means its beam can be seen from straight on and from either side when properly mounted, letting it function as both a clearance light and a side marker light. At 4.9 watts, it provides bright, dependable illumination that meets DOT compliance standards for road use.

Reliable Replacement: Built to Match Common Models

If you’re replacing an older unit, this one lines up perfectly with several common lights including Optronics #MC82AB, Truck Lite #20309Y, and Grote #45173. With dimensions of 4-1/2" long x 2-3/16" tall x 1-1/4" thick, it’s a direct fit that offers the same dependable performance with proven Peterson durability.

Video Transcript for Review of the Peterson Armored Clearance and Side Marker Trailer Light

Today we'll be taking a look at the Peterson Armored Clearance and Side Marker Trailer Light. This is going to give you better visibility for your trailer, since it's going to allow other drivers to see where you are, and also stay safe and DOT compliant. It's going to be a metal housing to keep our light protected, and that's also going to be a surface mount design, so our ground connection will be made by that metal surface making contact with our trailer, so we'll just have one wire to actually connect. It does not come with any mounting hardware for this, so you will have to pick some up on your own. It has an incandescent bulb in there, and to replace that you'll just need to remove the two Phillips head screws in that housing. The nice thing about this light is that it does have a viber socket, which is kind of like a little rubber socket to help absorb any road shock to help make that light last a little bit longer, so you don't have to worry about replacing it prematurely. So it's just kind of a softer material to help absorb some of that vibration. Lens just goes right back over it, put our two tabs in place, and then we can tighten those screws down. The bulb type for this light is 168, which you can find pretty commonly.

Put our other bracket in place, and then we'll go over some measurements. This light is compatible with 12 volt DC systems, and it is PC rated, which basically means that it can be seen from both the front and the side, and be still effective as long as it's mounted properly. The overall length of our housing is about four and a half inches, and that curve to the other side, it's about two and a quarter inches tall, and then about one and a quarter inch thick. The distance between our mounting holes, which are diagonal from each other, but the distance between those two would be three and three eights inches. The diameter of each of those holes is about three sixteenths. The power draw at 12 volts is 0.35 amps.

It is made in USA.I'm going to hook it up to a power source here so we can see just how bright it is, my power to the wire there, and then my ground. I can really go to any of those metal surfaces, and that'll ground out the light. So you can see you turn on the power source, it turns on, turn off the lights in the studio and you can get a better idea of just how bright it is. You can see from the side, we still can clearly see that that light is on, so that's why we get why we get that PC rating. So it can be used as a clearance light and a side marker light at the same time, again, as long as it's mounted of properly. This works as an exact replacement for the Optronics number, MC-82AB, truck light number 203O9Y, and the Grote 45173.That's going to do it for our look at the Peterson Armored Clearance and Side Marker Light..

Great product for the price. The shipping was very fast.

These are just what I wanted for my customers trailer. He is very pleased with the products and can't wait for me to get it all together so he can start using the trailer. What was on there before was total junk. Half worked and half didn't.
Great company!

by:

They work, and they are just like the ones these replaced so they match up to the mounting location. But they are expensive for a little metal and plastic.

by:

Got two amber lights for top of stock trailer. They were easy to install the metal frame should really help with the lights from being rubbed by tree limbs

by:

Very happy with the Peterson clearance / side marker lights. Very sturdy, know they will last. I can’t wait to install them on my Magic Tilt boat trailer.

by:

This product is an exact match to the ones on my 1966 Kencraft travel trailer...I couldn't be happier. I will be changing the four running lights on my other 1966 Kencraft trailer as well. Thanks for the prompt service and a great product.

Finally located these truck marker lights for sale at etrailer.com. I have used the Peterson Side Marker Lights, 119A and R for over thirty years on my farm truck. The metal housing finally rusted, but all lights still work!!

by:

This is a classic American product: tough, effective, and reasonably priced. They are to be replacements on a flatbed I am installing on another truck. So that they fit is definitely a bonus.
Yet I'm looking also to increase efficiency with LED bulb equivalents. This is not easy to do because most of these fixtures have bulbs so well shock mounted and with bulbs that last so long replacements are not a priority. eTrailer did a fine job of putting me in touch with people at Peterson who can provide the necessary specifications.
Shipping was fast. Packaging was fine. No complaints.

by:

Great product and fast service. Always having problem with clearance lights being broken off trailers or simply stop working. These clearance lights are built to last and easy to install. Highly recommended.

by:

They are a direct replacement for my old ones.

by:

Steel housing is what I need to protect from rough conditions. Works great for that.

by:

Lights were exactly as pictured and great quality. Love this company.

by:

Great customer service, good product selections with on time deliveries. I’ve already ordered from them 2 more times

See what our Experts say about this Peterson Trailer Lights

  • Armored LED Clearance Light # 424000 Recommendation for a 2007 Jumping Jack Trailer
The reason some lights have two wires and others only have one wire is because some lights ground through the mounting studs (one wire lights) while other lights have two wires, a power wire and a ground wire. If your old lights were one wire lights and you wanted to use a Square LED Trailer Clearance, part # MCL36AB, you could run the ground wire to the mounting stud for the light and you would be good to go. We do not sell rock guards for the # MCL36AB, but we do sell armored clearance...

  • Replacement Armored Lights with 3-1/8" Mounting Hole Centers
I believe the Peterson Armored Clearance and Side Marker Trailer Lights # 424000 (Amber) and # 424200 (Red) are what you are looking for. When measured at a diagonal the mounting holes are 3-3/8" apart on center, but when you measure them in a straight line they are right at 3-1/8" (see attached). I have also linked some review videos for you to check out. If you have something else please let me know and I can see if we have anything else for you.
